Resolved

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the New Year’s Resolutions I made in January (or was it February when I finally finished? I can’t remember.) And it seems like August 1 would be a good date to really get serious, buckle down, and finish the year strong.

At the moment, I’m feeling motivated and energetic. If you remember, (which of course you wouldn’t – why would you?), my resolutions were inspired by Henry David Thoreau:

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!
Live the life you’ve imagined.
As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.”

In fact, I started a little early and did some “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams” tonight. I can’t really talk about it yet but David, I definitely took a step, albeit a baby step. But you gotta give me props for that.

And I’ve been imagining the life I want for eons now so I know that it won’t be long before I get to live it. I’m so ready!

Did you make resolutions this year? If so, how are you doing?

We are family

Mom called to let me know that my brother has allergies. “Isn’t that something? You and your sister have allergies and now he does too. It really must run in the family.”

That is something — considering I don’t have a brother!

She is referring, of course, to her 8 year old yellow lab, that she insists on calling my brother. I have almost learned to live with that.

It’s when she gladly tells anyone listening that he’s her favorite child I start to get a little offended.

On my mind today

I have a question for you. Who proofread the first dictionary? Think about that and let me know, will ya, because it has been bothering me all day.

So are you watching Big Love? If not, you’re completely missing out. (And last week’s episode, with Bonnie Bedelia, was awesome!) Every time I watch it, I think “I want to live in a compound like the Henricksons”. But then the more I think about it, I can’t figure out who I would want living there with me. Maybe without the whole polygamy thing, it’s not such a good idea. I don’t know. Hmm, polygamy. Maybe I could handle 1/3 of a husband. Something to consider I guess.

Anyway, I’m really bothered by the fact that the Henricksons have a half dozen small children running around between those three houses and there isn’t a fence around the swimming pool. That has started to bother me to the point where I can’t stand it when they are in the yard. And, the fact that they only use that great pool once or twice a season bothers me too. Hasn’t it been in the triple digits this year in Utah? They should totally be in the pool all day. Although I can’t quite picture Nicki in a swimsuit. It would probably have a skirt. And sleeves.

And not to completely go all TV on you, but My Boys starts tonight! I’ve been waiting for this since the minute the last show finished airing last year. (With a kiss! Between P.J. and the HOTT Brendan! What’s gonna happen?!) And I know it’s supposed to be all about P.J. and her ‘boys’ but Jim Gaffigan is completely stealing the show. He cracks me up just by walking in a room. And with lines, props, and other characters to play off of, he is hilarious.

So there you go, that’s what’s on my mind today. And don’t forget…get back to me on that dictionary thing. It could keep me up all night.

Between friends

“Do you have company?”

“No, it’s just ‘the boys’, watching television.”

“Oh. Is that Fergie I hear?”

“Yes. Can you believe it? My husband and son have finally found one singer they both like. It’s usually a decibel war around here between The Stones coming from the living room and some rapper coming from G’s bedroom. It’s nice they found something in common.”

“Huh. Hey, B, you do realize that neither of them has even noticed that she sings, right?”

“You’re my best friend. Leave me my little delusions, okay?”

“You got it.”

HTML OMG

If you haven’t stopped by my blog recently, you really should. (Of course, if you’re already here, then disregard!) I’ve gone crazy with the sprucing up. I’ve added buttons and pages and links – oh my! I got caught in that time suck that is HTML and widgets and every time I thought “I really need to stop and do something else”, I found just one more thing to do.

You will find my “What I’m Reading” page has been reformatted and now contains book covers and links to all my reviews. Also I added a new “What I’m Watching” page so you can see what’s on my DVR and in my Blockbuster queue, also with pics that link to more information.

There is a new Quote of the Week widget, that I’m updating on Sundays, in the left sidebar (as this is written, I have a left and right sidebar, which could change in the future). Everyone who knows me from my LJ days, knows how I love a good quote. Along with my other buttons, I created my own Do Good button, using the button maker tool at Blogflux. And I have The Cutest Email Me button EVER, on the right, courtesty of Blog Buttons Free.

I’ve also been prowling around the interwebs for different blogs to read. My blogroll is a little heavy on the mommy and daddy blogs (and I LOVE them!) but there have to be blogs out there, written by people like me. So I’ve been on a treasure hunt for new and interesting blogs that have nothing to do with diaper rash, day care, or bed times.

It hasn’t been easy. I’ve found more than a few, but less than several, (are you with me?) single women bloggers out there but I found even more parent bloggers to read as well! Let’s face it, kids are pretty darn entertaining. Especially when you aren’t the one who has to clean up the floor around their high chairs or keep them from tormenting the dog.

But maybe I’m going about this treasure hunt thing all wrong. I should do what I do with all my other questions in life — bring it to you.

So, which are your favorite blogs? Other than those already in my blogroll, of course.
