Since it’s Saturday and I had a long week, I’m spending the day clearing out the DVR. I’ve come to some conclusions about this season’s shows. My favorite show is Women’s Murder Club. Don’t be alarmed…it isn’t about women who kill. It’s about women (a detective, assistant DA, medical examiner, and journalist) who solve murders. Are you watching this? It’s pretty good. Women are going to like it because these are strong, intelligent women who actually play well together and men will like it because, hey, they are pretty women who are strong, intelligent and play well together.
A close second favorite, and also about dead bodies, is Pushing Daisies. The whole premise of the show is that the main character can bring people back to life by touching them. But if he touches them a second time, they die again, this time for good. But if he brings them to life and doesn’t touch them within 60 seconds (I think 60 seconds is right), then someone else has to die to take their place. He has this power over humans and animals so right now he has a pet dog he can’t pet and a girlfriend he can’t hug (or kiss or hold hands with or anything else for that matter). It looks like something I wouldn’t like at all and it’s difficult to describe exactly why I like it but I think it’s the tone of the show. It has a very lilting energy, a soft cadence. Soothing, yet fun. Just watch it once and you’ll see what I mean.
I’m also recording Samantho Who? (I adore Christina Applegate), The Big Bang Theory (makes me laugh out loud each and every week), and Private Practice (um, Taye Diggs is in it…need I explain?). They are all happy diversions but I suppose if they fell off the schedule next week, I wouldn’t miss them all that much.
Of course, I’m still loving and obsessing over Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Still watching How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, and Ace of Cakes. And I’ve recorded all the Brothers & Sisters so far this season but haven’t gotten around to watching any of them. Obviously I can do without it so it may fall off my roster at some point soon.
I’m completely over Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. Although they both have some shining moments, I can’t stand watching how petty, self-involved, and manipulative the women on those shows are. I just don’t want my viewing “vote” to support those types of women role models.
Anyway, that’s pretty much been my day….except, the last of my birthday present came today! (It came in many pieces.) I bought myself a new point-and-shoot camera this year since my old one gave out several months ago. (I’m a point-and-shoot gal as I have no photographic talent or skills…thankfully I have David and Alissa to call on if I ever need a “real” photo taken!) I bought this one, extra batteries, additional memory, and a case with a stylus. I took a few practice shots today and I’m loving it so far! I wish I had it when I was trying to describe this or this or this. But that’s okay…going forward, we’re all set! And it is very small, wee even, so I can take it everywhere. Yea!
So, how have you spent your Saturday?

I love Pushing Daisies, too! Before the show started I wasn’t too sure if I would like it or not….but I was hooked after the first episode. I agree that it is hard to pinpoint exactly why it is a great show….other than the fact that there is no other show like it.
Great actors, great writers…

Happy Birthday!!!
Cool new camera. Have fun!
I like Women’s Murder Club, and Big Bang Theory, and Private Practice. All enjoyable if I can get to the television in time to see them
I also still like Grey’s Anatomy, but Desperate Housewives is no longer a must for me. Have you seen Men in Trees? Another favorite of mine.
Again, Happy Birthday!
