I know I may be in the minority for saying so…but I’m actually enjoying the writers strike. Obviously, I would prefer that all those people could go back to work (this has to be such a stressful time for them) but I am loving all the free time. Other than the three Law & Order series, which I watch continuously regardless if they’re reruns or not, I’m just grooving on the down time. So much so that I’m beginning to wonder why I even have a television. Again. I could buy a season of Law & Order a month for less than my cable bill and granted, it would take a few years but eventually I would own all the series’ episodes. Which, frankly, I may do anyway. I do loves me some Law & Order.
So what about you? How are you getting by during the writer’s strike?
And are there any series that you could own and feel that you could get by just fine without television or cable? Other than Law & Order, I would choose The Sopranos and (wait for it) The Gilmore Girls.
How completely split-personality is that?

This is exactly what I’ve done. I haven’t had cable for 8 months or so, and I haven’t really missed it (it was only basic, anyway). I recently have gotten into some reality shows, but those have lost my interest of late. I’ve decided to stop all that and just watch DVDs: Gilmore Girls! I finished my complete set at Christmas, so I think that I could watch it continuously. They just don’t grow old.
Oh, and I’ll soon be borrowing 24 from a friend. Somehow I think I’ll find being able to watch episodes whenever I like much more gratifying than those who had to wait week to week!

Ditto – I’m not really missing it and I’m certainly not having trouble filling the small holes it’s left behind. We TiVo everything anyway – and for once I don’t have the feeling that there’s 40 hours of TV that NEED watching. Our Netflix (and friend) rentals have seen more churn but my overall feeling is whatever…
We just watched the entire run of “Firefly” – this is the kind of stuff we get to do now. I will say that “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” are a little more lame – I would like to see those get back in shape for all the important sarcasm that should be heaped this year – but otherwise – feh…

TV? What’s that? I don’t have any cable…and when it went so did the tivo. And everything that I had recorded…
The boys and I have been listening to the iPod and dancing in the kitchen…and they’ve been playing some video games.
