Every now and then, I see my blogger friends around town. Not the local bloggers (because that might make sense — and, have we met?) but the ones who live in other states, or countries even. Because you know, La Fuji Mama has nothing better to do than hop over from Tokyo to stock up on mascara at the East Peoria Walgreens.
The person I see most often is Molly. I see her at the post office, at the grocery store, in the doctor’s office…you name it, she’s been there. The funny thing is, I’m not even seeing the same woman each time. I know this because it finally hits me that no, this can’t be Molly, because the kids calling her “Mommy” aren’t Molly’s. And they aren’t the kids who were calling the imposter Molly “Mommy” last month either. Once I saw Molly and she didn’t have kids with her but she was with Frema. I was completely freaking out because everybody knows they are close friends. So of course it made sense that they would travel to Peoria to shop at Target. Because, like, Indiana doesn’t have any of those.
I saw John B. at the gas pump next to mine one day last fall, spotted Beth downtown, and just knew it was Reesh walking out of my favorite restaurant the other day. Today, I rode the elevator with Ronnica but although I smiled at her, I didn’t force her into conversation because I know she doesn’t like talking to people on elevators.
Why do I do this? Am I so friend-starved that I’ve taken to seeing people, who let’s face it, I barely know, because I have found no time to see my “real” friends? Well, isn’t that pitiful?

Thank you for respecting my privacy in the ackwardly intimate elevator. =)

Wow, Debra.
I’m flattered that you thought you saw me, first of all; but beyond that, this made for magical reading. It’s kind of a cross between “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and A Beautiful Mind (minus the, you know, schizophrenia and stuff).
Really, really nice writing you’ve done here.

Hmm. I’ve never seen my blog friends walking around town. Kentucky must be too boring

I agree, what a great post. I have a blog friend that lives in town, but we never see each other. Strange isn’t it? The world of us I mean.

Actually a mascara run would be nice, and I have never been to Peoria…
