1. Just a reminder to please comment on my 500th post, if you haven’t already. (Real life friends, where the heck are you?) I’m going to draw a winner from the commenters on that entry and the prize is a $75 gift card from Amazon. Who can’t use that, right?
2. And many, many thanks to those who have already commented with congratulations and 100 Things suggestions. You have some great ideas!
3. Now, I have a question for you. I’m invited to a wedding this summer that I won’t be attending. Since the wedding is out of state, I’m planning to just send a check in my card, rather than worry about buying and shipping a gift. So my question is, how do I make out the check? Is it proper to write the check to Mr and Mrs Newlywed? Or, since I’m actually just a friend of the groom, would it be okay to write it to Mr Newlywed and assume they will understand it is for both of them? Or are checks just bad manners and I should send cash? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and ship a gift? Ugh. Please tell me anything but that last thing.
4. I haven’t had a book review in a while, have I? I’m having a terrible time getting through this biography of Howard Hughes. I’m reading it every day but I can only manage about a half chapter at a time and then I have to put it down. He was an interesting character but there is only so much of him I can take in one sitting. At least I’m up to 1970 and he died in 1976 so I’m on the downhill side. I’m hoping to buckle down and finish it this weekend. I’m definitely reading a summer chick-lit book or something else frivolous when I’m done.
5. My mom and step-dad have taken off for a two week road trip through northern California, Oregon and Washington. They left Monday. On Wednesday, I had a message on my answering machine in my mom’s frantic voice, telling me the password to all their accounts, how to break into the house, and which attorney has their wills. That was it. Sometimes I think she gets paid to freak me out.
