I had big plans for my Monday. I had a list (!) of all the places I wanted to go and all the things I needed to buy and I was even going to my favorite restaurant with free Wi-Fi and do a little off-site blogging…it was going to be a busy, busy day. I wasn’t going to waste this day off, no sirree.
But then, I ran a marathon on Sunday and that just sapped me for doing anything productive on Monday. What? No, not that kind of marathon. I ran an “In Plain Sight” marathon from my DVR. And it wasn’t easy, let me tell you. I had the entire season to catch up on so that was like eight hours of grueling couch-potatoing, my friends. I’m not going to lie; I wasn’t in peak potato form so I wasn’t able to finish in one sitting……but really, just finishing, no matter how long it took, is something to be proud of.
But by the time I crossed the finish line, it was like 2 o’clock Monday morning. And because I was in a groove by then, I decided to take one more lap around the DVR and watched the latest episode of “Burn Notice”. Well, then it was almost 3 am and yet I still wasn’t concerned about Monday. I figured I could sleep in until mid-morning and have plenty of time to get everything done. No worries.
Until the tornado siren went off. At 5:40 am.
I always wondered if I would hear that thing if I was in a deep sleep but I really needn’t have worried. I had jumped out of bed before it even registered to me what I was hearing.
So I grabbed my glasses and a bra (I am paranoid about being bra-less in an emergency. You can add that to all the other fun facts you are learning about me.) and ran downstairs to wait it out.
Sitting on a cold hard bathroom floor while in a sleep-deprived stupor just does something to start your day off wrong, doesn’t it?
Needless to say, I was a little cranky and a lot tired the rest of the day. I could barely stand to be around me so I certainly wasn’t going to inflict myself on anyone else. That would be what the kids call, A Bad Idea.
So I stayed home. I did laundry, a little cleaning, a little Blogroll upkeep, and (shhh!) I logged on to work and kept up with the email. I figure it will be less to do on Tuesday and Monday was going to suck anyway…so who did it hurt?
Anyway, just when I thought this Monday was a lost cause, guess what happened?
I got an award!
Yes, my dears, it seems that my good friend, XUP, considers this a Brilliant Blog and has bestowed, upon Reflecting, the Brilliant Blog award!
How cool is that? Beats sitting on a bathroom floor any day, I have to say. It means a lot that she thought of me and if I could, I would turn right around and give the award to her. She and I are so much alike and yet I still wish I was more like her. She is awesome.
And now the rules say I need to pass this on to seven other deserving recipients. Well, I think everyone in my Blogroll deserves this award so this is extremely difficult. But in no particular order, I will bestow the Brilliant Blog Award to:
Alissa Because she has become much more than just a blogging friend to me…she is a friend friend.
John B Because he was the first ’stranger’ to ever comment on my blog over two years ago (over on LiveJournal) and has been with me ever since. I constantly learn something from him.
Molly Because I secretly want to be her…single and fabulous, living in an adorable apartment in NYC. And also because she is a great writer who is open and honest and lays her emotions right out there on the table for us. She makes me feel a little braver.
Jacki Because she is smart and funny and generous and because she is in Denmark right now, picking out a cute Dane to bring home for me. Right, Jacki?
Linda Because I may never get to France and yet she makes me feel like I am there whenever I read her posts and look at her photographs.
Sandy Because everything she writes is an inspiration; every photo a blessing.
Matthew Because when he writes about his children, I think about my own Dad and wish that he had found a medium to document everything he was thinking and feeling when I was younger. Matthew’s blog embodies a father’s love.
**************
Seriously though…if you are on my Blogroll, consider yourself awarded. Just because I had to highlight seven blogs certainly doesn’t mean only seven are deserving. Brilliant Blogs are all around!

Aww, yay! Thank you! I feel the same way about you
I will pass it along after I finish with all of the birthday festivities, K?

Awards are fun – you get to meet lots of new bloggers that way. I’m going to make my way through your list, for instance.
And, secretly, I always hope that I AM braless in an emergency. The wind and rain whipping and twisiting my long, flowing (and by now transparent) negligee around my quivering body as i stand on the roof of my house to escape the raging flood waters. Suddenly, in the midst of the storm’s torrent a strapping, stunningly attractive rescue worker appears. He wraps me in his strong, warm arms and lifts me to his rescue boat where he rubs me down with a soft towel and feeds me sips of brandy and some hot savory delicacies (just to keep up my strength until we get somewhere safe).
You might want to think about that next time you grab your bra.

Debra,
I happen not to be feeling especially brilliant today, but I thank you for the honor, and I thank you for the kind words. I look forward to many more years of visiting here and reading.
Oh–and, uh . . .
“I am paranoid about being bra-less in an emergency.”
. . . I constantly learn something from you, too.

Apparently (reading your previous comments) your “paranoid about being bra-less in an emergency line” is exactly the kind of brilliant nugget I thought it was. If you ever write a book, I think that might make an excellent first sentence.
And an In Sight marathon? Woo-hoo!
Can’t wait to go through your list of awarded sites.

I’m glad to hear that you would be fully supported if you got swept away in a tornado. =)
The paragraph about your marathon? HILARIOUS. I’m considering doing that with 24 (the first season), but it’s a bit longer. And I don’t have any of the other seasons yet. So it could be very hard to swallow!

Nothing like a blog award to make your day, right?
I’m chuckling about the bra-less thing, because I’m right there with you.
I need my bra, flashlight, glasses and purse. I hate tornado season…
Hope your Tuesday went well.

AM cracking up about the bra. When I leave my house, I wear newer underwear. Cause if I was ever in an accident and died and ended up in the morgue, I don’t want some hot ass man like Warrick on CSI talking about how sad holey underwears are.

HAHA! I wasn’t able to bring back a cute Dane for you, since the import taxes are kinda expensive. However, I did snap a lot of pictures of cute Danes at the beach. Does that count?
Oh, and thanks!!
